The history of “Famille Michaud Apiculteurs”

“Famille Michaud Apiculteurs” is a family-run company in which know-how has been handed down through 4 generations. It specialises in the production, jarring and commercialisation of high-quality honeys and products of the hive..
Yves MICHAUD, who founded the company in 1920, was a passionate, creative man who devoted himself entirely to beekeeping and the production of honey. By moving his hives according to the seasons and the blossoming times, he managed to obtain several harvests per year and succeeded in isolating monofloral honeys.
He thus became the forerunner of migratory beekeeping. As he was always looking for the best possible quality, he was also the first person in France to introduce the processes that allowed honeys to be extracted rather than pressed: the perforextractor, the rotary filter and the first nylon fabrics for filtering.
By constantly improving beekeeping and production techniques, he contributed to making France one of the foremost producers of honey in Europe.
Bernard Michaud, the founder’s son, ran the family company from 1965 to 1990. He was passionate about beekeeping like his father and was behind the commercialisation of honeys under the brand name “Lune de Miel” throughout the French distribution network, as well as being behind the idea of enhancing the image of France’s great regional honeys under the brand name “Miel l’Apiculteur”.
Vincent Michaud, the founder’s grandson, has been running “Famille Michaud Apiculteurs” since 1990. Thanks to a marketing strategy that complements the very high quality of honeys commercialised, the company has been greatly developing its international activity, exporting its products to more than 88 countries around the world.
There isn’t just honey, there are honeys.
Depending on the floral origins and the beekeeping techniques used, we can, just like for great wines, find an astonishing variety of tastes, colours and consistencies.
Today, still nourished by this apicultural tradition, we endeavour to produce honeys that are rare, characteristic and refined.
From our beekeeping base of Gan at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains, we migrate our hives all over the south-west of France, producing highly-reputed Acacia and Mountain honeys.
